Description
Given that Greece has a wine-making heritage that goes back further than most countries, it’s always been a surprise to me that for so long, Greek wine seemed to just be something you might try on holiday and definitely didn’t travel. A new generation of winemakers has changed all that, and producers like Lyrarakis, based in Crete, have managed to create world-class modern wines whilst respecting the traditions and history of the vineyards and the vines. In doing so, they are protecting indigenous varieties that have existed for millennia from going extinct, and they are introducing the wine world to the brave new face of Greek wine.
–
The wines we sell don’t come off a never-ending production line, so there is always a tiny chance that one of the wines in the curated cases drops out of stock. If this happens, we will replace the missing wine with one of similar style and always a higher value; we don’t want you to lose out here.
What's inside?
Vidiano White PGI ‘Queen’
An herbaceous nose that is so fresh. Dry with an almost ‘squeaky’ acidity on the palate. Fleshy and complex, this is a genuinely interesting wine that would be perfect with grilled fish.
Plyto, Psarades Vineyard
Love it! Bright, zippy, tangy and textured with a rich and complex palate with notes of green apple, quince and white peach.
Thrapsathiri, Armi Vineyard
A more ‘serious’ nose, complex, mineral and poised with a lovely delicate richness to the palate. A very delicate toastiness creeps in at the edges and is perfectly balanced by elegant fruitiness with a touch of dried herbs. Perfect with oysters.
Assyrtiko, Voila Vineyard
Fresher than an iceberg in a blizzard! Deliciously, mouth-wateringly fresh, yet there is still weight to this wine, so it’s no one-trick pony. One to drink in the hot summer sun.
Dafni, Psarades Vineyard
A nose that is just like wandering through a herb garden in spring. The palate has a creamy, textured richness to it at first and then is pulled taut again with more herbaceous freshness. Complex and utterly beguiling.
Kotsifali Red PGI ‘Queen’
A red wine for the sunshine. Served slightly chilled, this is the wine to put on the table for one of those lazy afternoon feasts with good company. Bright and juicy with black cherry and blackcurrant notes, a good twist of spice, and a fabulously fresh finish.
