Hello there, we’re Bridget and Rob Hoult and we run Hoults Wine Merchants. We’ve are family business which has been going for 40 years which, looking back, is a really long time. Over those four decades we’ve built up a wealth of knowledge and experience which has helped us to put together one of the best ranges of wines in the country. Admittedly it’s not a particularly tricky job, drinking ridiculous numbers of wines on a regularity which makes our doctor wince but it’s what makes the difference. We know every wine in the shop, we’ve tasted them all, so if you really want to know what you’re buying then make us use all that knowledge and we’ll be able to select the perfect wine for you.
As an independent wine merchant we look for wines which reflect how we work and what we value. Flavour always comes first but we are in Yorkshire and the war cry of “Ow much!” is something we make sure to bear in mind. So we want value, and that means serious pound for pound flavour whether a wine is £6 or £60, it’s got to put a smile on your face and skip in your step.
Doing this job for as long as we have means that we have the answers to an enormous number of questions. What wine goes with this dish? Easy! How much wine will I need for my wedding? Less than you think but we’ll make sure you don’t run out. What should I buy my uncle Arnold for Christmas? An easier one to answer than you’d think.

P.S. The majority of what we sell is wine but we do have a perfectly formed and carefully curated range of spirits. We select these as we do our wines, plenty of tastings and an emphasis on quality and value. Smaller producers crafting exceptionally high quality products and most often with generations of experience behind them.
Curated Cases
They say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but for wine, the label is often the only thing we have to go on until we’ve actually paid for the bottle. This can tend to lead to falling back on the familiar, which is fine, but there are over 10,000 wines available in the UK, so there’s plenty of room for experimentation and the chance to find a few new favourites. These curated cases are the perfect way to get drinking outside of your comfort zone. We taste thousands of wines each year, and all of that practice has made us pretty good at finding the real gems, so you know that every wine in one of our curated cases is going to be a little superstar.
Each case is a mix of 6 different wines with full tasting notes to give you a little more background as to what is in your glass. If you feel that 6 bottles just won’t see you through, then go for a 12 bottle case, and we’ll double up on each wine. You can order the curated cases on a subscription basis, and you’ll receive your case every 3 months; there’s no obligation, and you can cancel at any time. Or you can just buy a one-off.

Home Delivery
We offer FREE local delivery to HD and HX postcodes on all orders over £75. If you have a smaller order or are further afield then we use a 48 hr courier and some very sturdy packaging to ensure that your wine arrives without any bumps shall we say. Please note we don’t send parcels out over a weekend and we are closed Mondays so we can dispatch Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for next day
delivery.
Wine List
Our range of over 650 wines from across the globe is an ever changing selection of delights and there is no practical way to list them on here, we’re a bricks and mortar kind of bunch when it comes to the whole range. It’s got all the wines on it but it’s not half as exciting as actually visiting the shop.
