–
The wines we sell don’t come off a never-ending production line, so there is always a tiny chance that one of the wines in the curated cases drops out of stock. If this happens, we will replace the missing wine with one of similar style and always a higher value; we don’t want you to lose out here.
What's inside?
La Battistina, Gavi, Piemonte
A firm favourite, we’ve been selling this wine for a quarter of a century, and it’s not hard to see why. There is a wonderful complexity and fleshiness to this wine that makes it immediately engaging. I’ve often, quite lazily, described it as a straight comparison with Chablis, but it does work as a description.
Castel del Lupo ‘Della Ginestra’ Pinot Grigio (organic), Lombardia
This wine demonstrates what Pinot Grigio is capable of when given a bit of attention to detail. First press juice from tip-top organic fruit, which results in a wine which looks so pale it could be mistaken for water, but, wow! The flavour is there, it pops, all green apple and grapes with perfectly balanced acidity and perfect purity on the palate.
Villa Raiano Falanghina, Beneventano, Campania
Grown on rich volcanic soils, this is a classic expression of Falanghina. Ripe and aromatic with green citrus and wild herbs. Crisp and incisive on the palate with pure, focused fruit characters – apricot, grapefruit and bitter lemon. This is nicely balanced by taut acidity, a mineral texture and a savoury finish.
Paolo Leo ‘Passo del Cardinale’ Primitivo di Manduria, Puglia
Manduria is the heartland of Primitivo, and this is one heck of a wine. Layer upon layer of rich, raspy black cherry fruit with incredible length and a really very, very moreish twist to it. It’s no surprise that this wine wins so many awards; it’s stellar.
Cortese ‘Sabucci’ Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicily
The only DOCG in Sicily Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a blend of Nero d’Avola and Frapatto. Cortese has got the balance perfect, and this wine walks on the lighter side of reds, so serve it a little cooler. It’s certainly no slouch in flavour terms, though, there’s so much flavour with subtle spicy fruit and playful acidity. It’s the perfect summer gourmet red.
Contesa Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Abruzzi
So much Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is basic pizza wine, simple but fun. Contesa do things differently, and this wine is a bigger, bolder and definitely richer take on the style. Warm and open on the nose with aromas of ripe black fruit, hints of dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate is rich and generous with bramble and black cherry fruit fleshing out the supple yet structured tannins. Bright acidity with notes of mocha and liquorice on the finish.
