Description

This handpicked Aussie case of wines showcases the country’s fantastic winemakers. From fresh, zippy Sauvignons to vibrant, complex and charming Chardonnays to approachable, yet muscular Cabernet Shirazes. Grab a case and get involved. Cheers Mate!

The wines we sell don’t come off a never-ending production line, so there is always a tiny chance that one of the wines in the curated cases drops out of stock. If this happens, we will replace the missing wine with one of similar style and always a higher value; we don’t want you to lose out here.

What's inside?

Soumah Of The Yarra Valley ‘Savarro’, Victoria

100% Sauvagnin, which is a rarely planted and relatively new grape variety to Australia, but one that thrives in the cooler climate of the Yarra Valley. Soumah have created a truly fabulous wine which has that fabulous zip and zest of pin-point accurate acidity, but balances it perfectly with lime, lemon and orange blossom flavours on a long and complex palate.

Yalumba ‘Samuel’s Collection’ Chardonnay, Eden Valley

The old days of over-oaked, flabby, sweet Chardonnays are gone, and in their place are wines like this delightful drop. Taking Burgundy as its reference point, it then shows what happens when you marry up Aussie sunshine, precision winemaking and just a touch of French oak. The cooler climate of the Eden Valley helps to create a vibrant, complex and utterly charming wine.

De Bortoli ‘Willowglen’ Gewurztraminer Riesling, New South Wales

I had to include this wine because it’s such a delightful throwback. GTR, as the blend is affectionately known in Oz, is hugely popular and somehow, we’ve never fallen under its spell. Maybe it’s our lack of sunshine, as this is the perfect wine for garden drinking. Maybe it’s the fact that the grapes sound too Germanic and remind people of Liebfraumilch. Whatever it is, it’s never too late to discover this glassful of sunshine. A little off dry with lashings of ripe fruit, a delicate touch of sweetness and a rounded finish with just the right little lick of acidity. Terrific with spicy food.

Smalltown Vineyards “The Black Craft’ Shiraz, Barossa Valley

There is no Shiraz quite like Barossa Valley Shiraz, and this wine epitomises that. Layer after layer of deep, dark, brooding fruit with a palate which is velvety smooth and so rich and a finish that lingers long on the taste buds and urges you to dive straight back in for another glass, or two.

Willunga 100 Cabernet Shiraz, McLaren Vale

The McLaren Vale sits on the edge of the suburbs outside of Adelaide, and whilst it’s not too far from the Barossa Valley, it tends to produce a slightly more ‘chunky’ style of red wine. This is a perfect example, plenty of ripe blackcurrant fruit with that tell-tale raspy acidity playing at the edges. Then the oomph is provided by the introduction of a bit of opulent Shiraz. A muscular yet approachable wine.

De Bortoli ‘Deen’ Vat 1 Durif, Riverina, Heathcote, Rutherglen

Durif needs sunshine. This thick-skinned varietal needs the rays of the sun to burn out some of the aggression in those skins and truly release this wine’s potential. Victoria is the perfect place for it and, indeed, it is one of the few places around producing straight Durif. It’s a deep black-purple colour with red fruits and gentle floral notes on the nose. The palate manages to retain some of that gentle floral character but adds it to plenty of big, rich fruit.
