Torres Andica Reserva Sauvignon Blanc, Chile

This deal won’t hang around for long… and neither will these

Torres Andica Reserva Rose, Chile

Torres in Chile have for decades stuck to the Spanish tradition of producing dry, delicious yet dark roses. They have finally succumbed to the vagaries of fashion, and this wine, which was formerly Santa Digna, has not only got a new label but also a new trendy pale colour. The good thing is that the wine is every bit as tasty as it used to be.

Barone Ricasoli Antico Feudo, Italy

Ricasoli have an incredible reputation for producing top notch Chianti and generally at top notch prices. This blend of Sangiovese with a little Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of the estate and the region. It’s supple, soft and very approachable, with fine tannins and a delightfully long palate.

Renato Ratti ‘Ochetti’ Nebbiolo, Italy

Another old favourite but one that has graced the shelves continuously for the last decade or so. In short it is the perfect alternative to very, very good, and expensive Barolo. Ratti make some of the best Barolo around and this wine shares that expertise and uses the same grape variety. Where it differs is in its approachability and friendliness. Barolo is generally an obtuse wine which requires a lot of attention and love to truly get what it is you are looking for. Whereas here, and for a much lower price, you get all of that elegance and complexity and outward ripples of flavour finishing with perfectly balanced, food-friendly acidity.

Ventisquero Grey Label Sauvignon Blanc, Chile

This wine is serious and seriously good. The cooler climate growing up in the arid Atacama region ensures that the vines really need to work for a living, and this ensures grapes packed full of flavour. This is then carefully crafted into a wine with so much personality, and it really proves that Chile can make seriously world-class wines. A terrific new world take on the greatest wines of the Loire Valley.
