SUMMARY:Spot the Difference! Again .... 2nd May 2025
DESCRIPTION:As the first tasting sold out so quickly we decided to do it again\, but with different wines! \nI often hear the refrain “Well I wouldn’t know the difference between expensive wine and everyday wine.” I’ve never believed this to be true\, I think we all have an inbuilt ability to see quality but I thought maybe it merited a vinous experiment. So this tasting will be a simple comparison between two wines in the same style but at very different price points. The trick to ensuring that this actually feels somewhat scientific is that it will be a blind tasting. \n5 pairs of wines\, each pair tasted side by side with a little background info on both from me but no indication as to which is the pricey one and which is the midweek value*. Ten terrific wines\, one superb evening. \n*My idea of midweek value wines is pretty decent gear at a sensible price and not a bottle of 19 Crimes\, as such it’s going to be all about flavour.

DESCRIPTION:Sakura season is the Japanese celebration during April and May and it provides us with the perfect opportunity to show you the amazing Akashi-Tai range and pair it with some cheese – yes we did say cheese!! \nWe’re going to take a deep dive in to top quality Sake from the traditional styles through to sparkling sake and even some fruit infused sake\, an absolute delight. There may even be a cocktail! \nWe will be pairing each of these Nihonshu (correct term for ‘Japanese Sake’ and official term used in Japan) with a carefully curated selection of top quality cheese.

DESCRIPTION:We have the incredible pleasure of welcoming Maximillian de Billy to our shop on Tuesday 20th May. Max is oenologist\, cellar master and chef de cave for Champagne Mandois and it’s a real coup to get him here in sunny Huddersfield. The wines from Champagne Mandois have become firm favourites over the two years since Bridge first brought them in and this will give us the opportunity to taste through the range with the man responsible for making them so ridiculously delicious. \nA Champagne tasting is a special event so we’re going to add in some lovely charcuterie to pair the wines with and we do also encourage you to dress up for the occasion\, black tie would look lovely\, but it’s not compulsory although I shall be dressed accordingly. \nSo get your tickets for the ultimate Champagne Tuesday.

DESCRIPTION:We last did a wonderful wine tasting with Conrado from Bodegas Ontanon back in September 2022\, so when we heard he would be available for another tasting we had to jump at the chance.\nConrado is a fantastically entertaining and superbly knowledgable gentleman and will guide us through a whole heap of amazing wines. Bodegas Ontanon produce amazing Rioja wines and some terrific wines in Ribera del Duero too. You really don’t want to miss the chance to taste some of the best Spanish wines around and listen to one of the most wonderful people in the world of wine.

DESCRIPTION:New Zealand\, a tasting where you can discover the diversity of this amazing country\, it’s not just bloody Sauvignon Blanc! Now\, that isn’t to say that there aren’t amazing Sauvignon Blancs available because that’s bleeding obvious but there is so much more to the land of the long white cloud than this one varietal. \nBridget has toured New Zealand twice (without me each time!!) and so join me for a tasting of wines from places I’ve not visited but with wines that I’ve drunk a lot of. A whole host of varieties from one of the nicest places on earth\, apparently (did I mention that I’d not been to NZ?) From North to South we will taste some truly world class wines. This will be a genuine eye-opener of a tasting.
