SUMMARY:Rieslings To Be Cheerful Part One - 20th May 2026
DESCRIPTION:Apologies to Ian Drury but I couldn’t resist that title\, partly because it sounds great and partly because awesome Riesling makes you very\, very cheerful. Riesling is seen as the greatest white wine grape if not the greatest wine producing grape full-stop. The reason for this is its versatility\, it can produce wines which vary from piercingly dry\, all the way up to hedonistically sweet. It is planted across the globe and is renowned for its ability to produce wines which can age for many years.\nWe are delighted to be joined by a true champion of Riesling\, and one of my favourite wine trade people\, the ebullient and entertaining Johnny Bingham. He will take you on a true Riesling journey covering a variety of styles\, countries and producers. All with his singular charm and wit. This will be a true eye-opener of a tasting and one to get your palate working at top speed.

DESCRIPTION:We are absolutely overjoyed to be joined by the lovely Günter Engelbert (I love that name!) from Salzl wines in Austria for what promises to be one of the tasting highlights of the year. Austria has such a rich heritage of winemaking and yet goes a little under the radar these days but it is producers\, like the excellent Salzl\, that are putting it back on the map. We’ve been selling for the Salzl wines for a few years now and they are nothing short of brilliant and so it’s a real treat to have them showcase to you exactly what it is that we are so excited about. A delicious mixture of white and red wines and a thoroughly modern look at Austrian wine.

SUMMARY:Spot the Difference! .... 12th June 2026
DESCRIPTION:Our most popular tastings of 2025\, so we had to bring them back! And\, yes\, they are always different wines from previous Spot the Difference tastings so you can come to as many as you like! \nI often hear the refrain “Well I wouldn’t know the difference between expensive wine and everyday wine.” I’ve never believed this to be true\, I think we all have an inbuilt ability to see quality but I thought maybe it merited a vinous experiment. So this tasting will be a simple comparison between two wines in the same style but at very different price points. The trick to ensuring that this actually feels somewhat scientific is that it will be a blind tasting. \n5 pairs of wines\, each pair tasted side by side with a little background info on both from me but no indication as to which is the pricey one and which is the midweek value*. Ten terrific wines\, one superb evening. \n*My idea of midweek value wines is pretty decent gear at a sensible price and not a bottle of 19 Crimes\, as such it’s going to be all about flavour.
