DESCRIPTION:Bodega El Escocés Volante is a family-owned and run business based in Calatayud\, Aragon in the North East of Spain. They are passionate about producing high quality wines with\na particular focus on the native Garnacha variety.\nThe founder\, Norrel Robertson\, has worked in wine for over three decades\, becoming a Master of Wine in 2000. In 2003 he gained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University\, New Zealand. He has worked vintages in numerous countries\, both northern and southern hemispheres\, and continues to work as a consultant nationally and overseas. In 2020\, he was inducted into the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino.

DESCRIPTION:Our most popular tastings of 2025\, so we had to bring them back! And\, yes\, they are always different wines from previous Spot the Difference tastings so you can come to as many as you like! \nI often hear the refrain “Well I wouldn’t know the difference between expensive wine and everyday wine.” I’ve never believed this to be true\, I think we all have an inbuilt ability to see quality but I thought maybe it merited a vinous experiment. So this tasting will be a simple comparison between two wines in the same style but at very different price points. The trick to ensuring that this actually feels somewhat scientific is that it will be a blind tasting. \n5 pairs of wines\, each pair tasted side by side with a little background info on both from me but no indication as to which is the pricey one and which is the midweek value*. Ten terrific wines\, one superb evening. \n*My idea of midweek value wines is pretty decent gear at a sensible price and not a bottle of 19 Crimes\, as such it’s going to be all about flavour.

SUMMARY:Sicilian wine tasting with Santa Tresa and Cortese Wineries - Thursday 30th April 2026
DESCRIPTION:Siblings Stefano and Marina Girelli hail from the very north of Italy but they could both see the potential that existed in the wilds of the island of Sicily. In 2001 they purchased the Santa Tresa winery\, lured by its rich red soils and back to nature wilderness. In 2016 they then purchased Azienda Agricole Cortese based in the hinterland of Ragusa. We have both been fortunate enough to visit these two fabulous wineries and have been passionate champions of the incredible wines that they both produce.  \nNow you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the ethos that is integral to both properties. Organic\, sustainable and crafted with a respect for the land\, the flora and the fauna. We’ll be joined by their export manager\, the wonderful Val\, who will guide us through the very essence of Sicilian wine.
